Welcome to 1932 By Bateman, the most elegant addition to the south Edmonton skyline in decades.
A Rich History
For 85 years, the Bateman family provided Edmontonians with high-quality groceries and excellent service. Bateman Foods began in 1932 when Weldon C. “Tubby” Bateman, the founder, established roots with his meat market, and Red and White store on 99 Street. Tubby built up his chain of grocery stores and opened a new store on 99 Street in 1957 at this very location.
The company grew to be the third-largest independent grocer in Western Canada to include seven IGA stores and 14 Red Roosters all located in Edmonton. Over the years, Bateman Foods employed thousands of Edmontonians and has given back to each community in which they operated. The last grocery store in the Bateman family, Wild Earth Foods, closed its doors in September 2017. But the legacy lives on; the Bateman Family is very mindful of the history of this site, and that community legacy will be a guiding principal of the development for this and future generations.
There is a growing demand from multiple generations of Edmontonians to live in well-conceived, highly amenitized communities, closer to the increasingly more-active and pedestrian-core areas of the city.
Bateman Properties is excited to help meet this demand by redeveloping the site at 99th Street and 89th Avenue with a unique project incorporating extensive amenities in a classic contemporary design. 1932 by Bateman offers residents luxury condominiums of thoughtful design in the north Strathcona neighbourhood, with connectivity to Downtown, Whyte Avenue, onsite community retail, and greatly enhanced public streetscapes.
1932 will incorporate two mixed-use buildings, connected via the development’s very own pedway, with shared amenities and quality residential dwellings above a podium. Shared amenities include a rooftop terrace and dining area, a fitness facility and plenty of other spaces to relax and connect with your neighbours. Active street frontages with beautiful architecture include townhomes, retail, shops and services – bringing the vibrancy of the north Strathcona community to your doorstep. 1932 is also actively pursuing a grocer for the ground floor retail area, which would not only benefit residents, but will service the surrounding neighbourhoods.
